Fajr workshops useful for young talents: Armenian director

An Armenian director praises the Fajr International Film Festival as useful for young talents.

An Armenian director has praised the 35th Fajr International Film Festival (FIFF) in the Iranian capital city of Tehran as useful for young talents.

Armenian director Guzh Tadevosyan, with one feature film and 4 shorts under his belt, praised the FIFF currently underway in Iran, Tehran, particularly the festival’s Talent Campus workshops (Darol Fonoun).

“First of all, I should say I like Iranian culture and cinema and that’s one of the reasons I’m here. The workshops are very good and useful, especially for young filmmakers. The tutors are A-list, knowledgeable and skillful in the movie industry,” the director said.

He also juxtaposed the history of Iranian Cinema with modern-day filmmakers at the international level.

“As I mentioned, I like Iranian Cinema, especially its new wave; works of Abbas Kiarostami, Asghar Farhadi, Reza Mirkarimi, etc. Their films are traditional and modern at the same time, or I may say they deal with traditional but international subjects.  In Iranian films, the conflict between tradition and modernity is apparent,” he said.

Tadevosyan has won prizes at different international festivals for his productions.

The 35th Fajr International Film Festival is hosting some 177 filmmakers, directors, and producers, representing 92 Iranian and international film companies and distribution networks.

This year’s event takes place in Tehran from April 21-28.
